Using Ripper Rater without an account

You can browse the drink leaderboard, the map, and spot details without signing in. We don’t ask for any personal information to browse. An account is only needed to rate or log drinks, add spots, follow other users, and see your own stats.

What we store when you create an account

Your email, display name, and a securely hashed password (we never store your actual password). If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the Apple account identifier and the email address Apple shares with us, which may be a private relay address. Any drinks, spots, ratings, reviews, and consumption logs you create are tied to your account, along with an optional bio and profile photo. Signing in creates a session that expires after 30 days.

What’s public

Your display name, bio, avatar (photo or color), ratings, reviews, and the spots and flavors you log can be seen by anyone using Ripper Rater, including people who aren’t signed in, on the leaderboard, the map, and your profile. Your email is never shown to other users. Following someone shows your name to them, and who you follow and who follows you is visible to both accounts.

We also combine drink logs across all users into anonymous statistics, such as the typical daily caffeine intake, which signed-in users can see next to their own. These only appear when enough people are included, and never reveal anyone’s individual logs or identity.

Location

Location is only used while the app is open, never in the background. It centers the map near you and sorts results by distance. When you search for a flavor, your approximate coordinates are sent to our server to sort the results, and are not stored. When you search for a place, your search text and the map area you’re viewing are sent to a place-search provider (see below). A location is only saved when you choose to pin a spot, and then it’s the spot’s location that is stored and shown on the map. You can decline location access and still use the app.

Photos

Ripper Rater only accesses your photo library if you choose a profile picture, and only the photo you pick is uploaded. You can decline and use a solid-color avatar instead.

Service providers

We don’t sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to track you across other apps and websites. There are no ads and no analytics in the app. We rely on these services to run it:

• Cloudflare hosts our servers, database, and uploaded profile photos.
• Resend delivers password-reset emails, and receives your email address only when you request a reset.
• Apple provides Sign in with Apple, maps, and nearby-place results in the iOS app.
• Photon (komoot) and Overpass (OpenStreetMap) provide place search. Your search text and approximate map area go directly from your device to these services when you search for a place.
• OpenStreetMap provides map tiles on ripperrater.com.

Security and abuse prevention

To prevent spam and brute-force attempts, we keep short-window request counters keyed to IP address or account. They’re used only for rate limiting.

Reporting & blocking

You can report a user from the menu on their profile, and report a written review from the flag next to it. You can block a user from the same menu. Blocking removes you from each other’s search results and friends lists and unfollows both directions immediately. Reports go to the app’s admin, who reviews them within 24 hours and can remove content or suspend accounts that break our Terms.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. This immediately removes your account, ratings, reviews, logs, profile photo, sessions, and follow connections. Drinks and spots you added stay in the shared catalog for other users, credited to “(deleted user)” instead of your name. For any other data request, email us.

Children

Ripper Rater is intended for people 13 and older and isn’t directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
